“The so-called collective West does not need a strong and sovereign Russia, and will not forgive us our independent policy and standing up for our national interests. It is trying to divide our society. It’s aim is to destroy Russia.”
The West spent decades after the Soviet Union collapsed helping Russia and trying negotiate differences. Putin gave up and attacked Ukraine. -
"With a high degree of probability, we can say that one of the tasks of the United States and its allies is the creation of bioagents that can selectively affect various ethnic groups of the population."
There are no biological weapons production facilities in Ukraine, U.S.-run or otherwise, and no “ethnic” bioagents. -
“We remind you that Russia, throughout all of its history, has never attacked anyone.”
Russia has engaged in numerous offensive military operations against its neighbors and others. Now, it’s rolling troops into Ukraine. -
“Unlike US, #Russia deploys military forces only upon request from host countries. We fulfil [sic] agreements with them and abide by international law.”
-
"All these statements can contribute to the destabilization of the situation … [by] the Ukrainian leadership, who on the sly, if you will, can decide to start a new civil war in their country and try to solve the problem of the southeast.”
It is Russia, not Ukraine, that is threatening a military offensive, and Ukraine’s “civil war” is a Russian-fed incursion in Donbas. -
“Then US Secretary of State James #Baker assured: ‘There would be no extension of @NATO one inch to the East.’ ”
Baker’s words are taken out of context. Then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has denied they were a “promise” not to expand NATO. -
“NATO has become a purely #geopolitical project aimed at taking over territories orphaned by the collapse of the Warsaw Treaty Organization and the Soviet Union.”
NATO does not “take over” member countries, and Ukraine is a sovereign state. NATO has an open-door policy for nations wishing to join. -
The quote attributed to Nuland, U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs, is fake and part of a torrent of domestic propaganda over Ukraine.
-
“82 years ago the USSR-Finland 'Winter War' started … amid forthcoming #WW2 and Third Reich’s enhancing military cooperation with #Finland. Why was Finland viewed by USSR as Hitler’s probable ally?“
The Soviet Union and Germany were de facto allies when the Soviets invaded Finland in 1939. Germany even blocked military aid to Finland. -
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is deeply concerned by Israel’s presence in the Caucasus… (Iran) will not accept a map change in the region.”
Only Iran’s ally Russia seems to be changing the map of the Caucasus region. -
“People tired of [a] tough decade had hopes for the so-called Rose Revolution, as a result, instead of an imaginary development, we ended up with a ruined economy in a hopeless state.”
By many measures, Georgia’s Rose Revolution in 2003 led to mostly positive effects on the country, a former Soviet republic. -
"Achieving sustainable development goals could become one of the elements in the bilateral dialogue between Moscow and Washington, but it is not. Because this dialogue is generally far from being in the best state right now, and not because of Moscow."
The major break in U.S.-Russia relations came in 2014 with Russia’s Crimea annexation, followed by its war in Ukraine and U.S. election interference.
